What do you think of my dispelling the myths of the Soviet Afghan War?

I agree with you on myth # 1 However myth # 2 you are correct in the fact that it wasn't a total route by the Russian Army but a slow with-drawl, But yes U.S. aide had an impact, but it wasn't the only reason for with drawl of Russian troops. The Russian Army was suffering from many desertions and increased use of opium. Large quantities of opium were pouring into many Major cities including Moscow from Afghanistan. They showed news reports from Moscow where Lenin Square was littered with syringes and ex soldiers preparing opium in there apartments. Myth #3 the Soviets may have been winning the major battles, But were loosing the hearts and minds of the Afghan people and as we are now finding out the Afghan's are tough. They might not have the artillery, helicopters and planes that most armies are used too for support but they are a tough people used to a hard climate and some seriously rough terrain. Myth #4 The Afghans might not have supported the " Rebels " in heart or mind However they did give comfort and aide to the enemy. Of course they had no choice, it was either that or have the " rebels Wipe out your village. Myth#5 Debunked the Russian Army were y trapping children's toys. With just enough explosive to maim but not kill. At that time I remember film crews showing children without a hand or foot or blinded by these weapons of terror. The Russian Army also introduced a new solid nerve agent known as " Silver Rain " Which was instantaneous rebel soldiers were found slumped over there weapons dead, no time to inject yourself with " Atropine " or whatever they use now for nerve gas. Some soldiers could not condone these atrocities i.e. the reason for the high rate of desertion. I was 27 yo when this was going on I remember the News feed on this event and it wasn't pretty. I also was in contact with some of my buddies still serving in Special forces some who had been to Afghanistan as Advisers. They told a grim story.
